Preseason: Togolese Heritage Minnesota Team vs Bateaux FC

Starting XI: Brotzman (GK), Schwartz, Hunt, Lopez, Walters, Hoepner, Tepole, Xiong, Ripplinger, Martinez, Goodrie.

Subs: Beckfield, Kreutzfeldt, Mena

After going behind early, the lads couldn't find the leveler. Though we went close on a couple occasions, that only really counts in horseshoes.

The squad travelled lightly to Brooklyn Park, MN over the weekend to face friends from the Togolese Heritage Team based out of the Twin Cities. It was a pretty even affair throughout, but an early goal from Togo proved to be the difference in our 1-0 defeat.

A switch of play put the ball out on the left side of the pitch. The winger used his speed to push past Liam Schwartz at RB. Doing all that he could to get back in the play, Schwartz made a sliding challenge that the winger sidestepped. Cutting back onto his favored right foot, he put a curling effort into the far side netting over GK Aaron Brotzman (who earned his first club cap on the day).

We responded well to going down and went close on a few attempts later in the first half and in the second half. Togo also went close in the second half, spurning a few golden opportunities to double their advantage. Be that as it may, we couldn't make them pay for their wastefulness as we were just as wasteful in the attacking third.

There's a big week of training coming up as we approach our first WPASL season match when we travel to Barron to take on Barron Soccer Team. That match is scheduled for 6:00 PM at the Birch Street Soccer Fields (196 E Birch Ave, Barron, WI 54812).
